Everything you need to know about playing Solve the Mystery
Technically yes, but the mystery won't be as fun since everyone already knows who the killer is and how the story unfolds. We recommend playing each story configuration only once with the same group. However, you can replay with different friends or try the same story with a different player count for a fresh experience with different characters and clues.
Your character information, clues, and alibis are private - never show your screen to other players. During gameplay, you choose what to share verbally with others. You can lie, tell the truth, or withhold information strategically. The only exception is during official questioning rounds where you must answer truthfully about specific details.
Your goal depends on your role. Most players are trying to identify the killer by gathering clues and analyzing alibis. If you're the killer, your goal is to avoid detection while subtly misleading others. Everyone submits their final deduction about who they think the killer is, and points are awarded based on accuracy and reasoning.
The Deductions tab is where you submit your final answer about who you think committed the crime. You'll select a suspect and provide your reasoning based on the clues you've gathered. Make sure to include specific evidence that led to your conclusion - better reasoning can earn you bonus points even if you don't identify the correct killer.
Each character has a unique personality, background, and secrets. Read your character description carefully and try to embody their mannerisms and motivations. Don't break character during gameplay - if your character would be nervous, act nervous. If they'd be defensive, be defensive. The more everyone commits to their roles, the more immersive and fun the experience becomes.
Special Conditions are unique circumstances or secrets that affect your character during the game. These might include hidden relationships with other characters, special knowledge about the crime scene, or conditions that limit what you can share. Always check your Special Conditions before the game starts and factor them into how you play your character.
Once all players have submitted their deductions, the host triggers the resolution phase. Our AI narrator reveals the true story of what happened, exposing the killer and explaining the chain of events. Points are then calculated based on correct identification of the killer, quality of reasoning, and how well each player stayed in character throughout the game.
